Growth & Wellbeing Scan
From 14 weeks onwards, there’s often a long wait between your routine NHS appointments and scans. Our Growth & Wellbeing Scan offers an opportunity to check in on your baby and enjoy some extra reassurance along the way.
During your appointment, we’ll check your baby’s heartbeat and movements, take measurements to assess their growth and provide an estimate of your baby’s current weight. You’ll also have plenty of time to watch your little one moving around on screen and enjoy another special bonding experience.
What’s included
Would you like to find out the sex of your baby at home with your friends and family? Just ask and we will write it down on a sealed card or select a confetti cannon or balloon for you!

Preparing for Growth & Wellbeing scan
The Process
We can’t wait to welcome you here at Baby Scanning Boutique in Shotton. We hope you’re as excited as we are and we genuinely want to make this the best possible experience it can be for you. Here’s what happens when you book a private baby scan with Baby Scanning Boutique.
Firstly, you can book your appointment either on-line at your convenience or call us on 01244 816922 or even drop us a text through Facebook or Instagram. You’ll get a confirmation email confirming the date and time of your scan.
There is plenty of parking close by but please try and turn up 10 minutes before your scan so you don’t feel rushed and please try and have a full bladder (this helps the machine get the very best images).
The day before your appointment you’ll receive a text message reminder with a link to a consultation form to be completed prior to your appointment.
When you come through our doors you’ll be greeted by one of our team members who’ll confirm your booking and let the sonographer know you’ve arrived. You can then sit comfortably in our reception area until you’re called for your scan.
One of our chaperones will then come and get you and take you through to the scan room where you will meet your sonographer who will introduce herself, talk you through the ultrasound process and answer any questions you may have.
There will be a small amount of gel put on your tummy which covers the area the probe will touch, this is not harmful and is there to help the soundwaves pass through so the ultrasound machine can generate the images of your baby.
The sonographer will move the probe over your bump, this is not painful or pressed on too hard and the scan will last a short while. From time to time some of our mums-to-be may need to get up, move about a bit or go for a walk to encourage baby to move into a good position.
Once the scan is over, the chaperone will take you to the printing area where you can select some images to print and take away with you.
Our environment is calm and relaxed and in order to maximise the chances of getting you the best possible images possible we have listed below some things that you can do to help.

Try to relax
Baby will feel any stress, tension or anxiety you have and will not want to move about and play for your scan.

Try to keep active
Just before you come in try to keep active. A little gentle activity such as a short walk will also encourage baby to move a little.

Full vs empty bladder
If you are under twenty weeks then its advised to make sure you have a full bladder so the technician can get a clear image. Scans after twenty weeks do not require a full bladder.

Energise baby
Try having a fizzy drink or a chocolate bar 20 mins before your scan to try and energise baby.

How much does a baby scan cost?
Our private baby scans start from £59 for a Growth & Wellbeing Scan. An Early Reassurance Scan or Late Reassurance Scan is £65, a Gender & Wellbeing Scan is £70, a Bonding & Wellbeing Scan is £80, and our Ultimate 3D, 4D & HD Live Bonding Scan is £110. Every scan comes with our free repeat appointment guarantee in case baby isn’t playing ball.
When can I find out my baby's gender?
You can find out at a gender scan from 14 weeks with our Gender & Wellbeing Scan, which includes a sneaky peek in 4D. Our Growth & Wellbeing Scan, from 14 to 30 weeks, also includes optional gender confirmation. If you can’t wait that long, our Blue or Pink early gender blood test tells you from as early as 6 weeks, with 99.9% accuracy and results in 3 to 4 days.
Do you have toilets and/or baby change facilities?
Yes we have toilet and baby change facilities.
What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D and HD-Live?
You’re probably already familiar with the black and white photo’s you get from hospitals, these are in two dimensions (length & height) or 2D. 3D adds depth, these are images come with the golden look and feel and 4D is the same but is a moving image i.e. a video. All of these are taken with the same ultrasound machine using a special probe (sometimes called a transducer).
During a 4D Scan we use both 3D & 4D, the live scan that you see on the screen is called 4D, and the still images we print out are 3D. HD is an improvement on 3D imaging using state of the art technology to create skin tones, shadows and clearer images and HD Live is the same for the 4D scan. HD Live is trademarked GE technology and of these are only available from clinics with specialist GE Voluson ultrasound machines like ours.
