Test Overview
What is the Blood Group Blood Test?
Our Blood Group Blood Test determines your blood type, identifying whether you are A, B, AB, or O, as well as whether you are rhesus (Rh) positive or negative.
This test is suitable for anyone who wants to know their blood type for medical, personal, or future planning reasons.
It can be particularly useful if you:
- Do not already know your blood group
- Want to be prepared for medical situations
- Are planning pregnancy or surgery
Your blood type is determined by specific markers (antigens) found on the surface of your red blood cells, along with antibodies present in your blood.
This test identifies both your ABO blood group (A, B, AB, or O) and your Rh factor (positive or negative), providing a complete understanding of your blood type.
Knowing your blood group is important in a variety of situations, particularly in medical care where matching blood types is essential.
This test measures 2 key biomarker across 1 category:
- Blood Group (2 biomarkers)
This provides a clear result identifying both your ABO group and Rh status.
- You must be 18 years or over to take this test
- No fasting is required

What biomarkers do we test?
- ABO Blood Group: Identifies whether your blood group is A, B, AB or O.
- Rhesus Factor: Identifies whether your blood is Rh-positive or Rh-negative.
More Information
Understanding your blood type can be important for both immediate medical needs and long-term health awareness.
In emergency situations or when a blood transfusion is required, receiving the correct blood type is essential. Receiving incompatible blood can lead to serious complications, so having this information readily available can be life-saving.
Your blood type may also be linked to certain health tendencies, although these associations are not diagnostic. Knowing your blood group can help you stay informed and take a more proactive approach to your health.

Please be aware:
Some people may feel dizzy and/or faint during and after their blood draw. If this has happened to you in the past, please tell the person carrying out the test so they are aware. The maximum attempts that are permitted with your consent will be two blood draw attempts. It is common to have a small amount of bruising after the procedure. This is normal and should resolve after a few days. However, if the area becomes red or swollen, please seek medical advice. Its fine to bring someone with you for support.
