Test Overview
What is the Coeliac Screen Blood Test?
Our Coeliac Screen Blood Test checks for specific antibodies in your blood to help identify whether you may have coeliac disease or a sensitivity to gluten.
This test is ideal if you are experiencing symptoms such as:
- Bloating or abdominal discomfort
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue or low energy
- Ongoing digestive issues
It’s also suitable if you suspect a gluten sensitivity or want clarity around your symptoms.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition where the body reacts to gluten — a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye — causing damage to the lining of the small intestine.
This test looks for antibodies produced by the immune system in response to gluten. Elevated levels may indicate that your body is reacting to gluten and could suggest coeliac disease.
Early detection is important, as untreated coeliac disease can affect nutrient absorption and lead to longer-term health issues.
This test measures 2 biomarkers across 1 category:
- Coeliac & Gluten Sensitivity (2 biomarkers)
- Tissue Transglutaminase IgA (tTG-IgA)
- Immunoglobulin A (IgA)
Together, these markers help assess whether your immune system is reacting to gluten.
- You must be 18 years or over to take this test
- You must be consuming gluten regularly before taking this test
- No fasting is required

What biomarkers do we test?
- tTG-IgA: Indicates immune response to gluten.
- IgA: Helps interpret coeliac test results.
More Information
When someone with coeliac disease consumes gluten, their immune system produces antibodies that attack the lining of the gut. This can lead to inflammation and damage, affecting the body’s ability to absorb nutrients properly.
This test focuses on identifying those antibodies, providing a strong indication of whether further investigation may be needed.
If results suggest coeliac disease, additional testing may be recommended by your GP to confirm the diagnosis.
