Test Overview

What is the Menopause Blood Test?

Our Menopause Blood Test measures key hormones to help determine whether you may be experiencing menopause, perimenopause, or whether your symptoms may be linked to another condition.

Who is this test for?

This test is ideal if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Hot flushes or night sweats
  • Mood changes or anxiety
  • Fatigue or poor sleep
  • Irregular or changing periods
  • Brain fog or memory changes

It’s also suitable if you want clarity about hormonal changes or reassurance about your health.

About This Test

Menopause is a natural stage of life where hormone levels change, typically occurring in your 40s or 50s. However, symptoms can begin earlier during the perimenopause (menopause transition).

This test measures key hormones involved in:

  • Ovarian function
  • Menstrual cycle regulation
  • Hormonal balance

It also includes thyroid markers, as some menopause-like symptoms can actually be caused by thyroid dysfunction.

By assessing these markers together, this test helps provide a clearer understanding of what may be causing your symptoms.

What’s Included in This Test

This test measures 5 biomarkers across 2 categories:

  • Thyroid (2 biomarkers)
    • Free T4 (Thyroxine)
    • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

What biomarkers do we test?

Hormones 3 biomarkers

  • Oestradiol: Regulates reproductive health and hormone balance.
Thyroid 2 biomarkers
  • TSH: Regulates thyroid hormone production.

More Information

Hormone levels naturally fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle and during the menopause transition, which means results can vary depending on when your test is taken.

Because of this:

  • A single test may not always provide a complete picture
  • If symptoms persist, repeat testing may be recommended

This test helps you:

  • Understand whether your symptoms may be hormone-related
  • Differentiate between menopause and other conditions such as thyroid issues
  • Take informed steps towards managing your health and wellbeing

Results are typically available within 10 working days from when your sample reaches the laboratory.

Please let us know prior to your appointment if any of the following:
• You have a disability
• You have any allergies that we should be aware of
• You have a medical condition that we need to be made aware of

The maximum attempts that are permitted with your consent will be two blood draw attempts. It is common to have a small amount of bruising after the procedure. This is normal and should resolve after a few days. However, if the area becomes red or swollen, please seek medical advice. Its fine to bring someone with you for support.
